Do our teachers have potential to act as a counsellor in identifying the needs of the children? (Part 1.5):

- Schools play an important role in a child’s life, as they spend most of the time at school, it becomes a shared responsibility of school and home. In recent times many studies have highlighted the prevalence of scholastic (related to school/academics) difficulties as a major problem which children face  (Kapur, 2007) . Teacher should be humble, should create a good example for the students:

- Teachers play a very important role in a child's life. Teachers are the real role models. Whatever the teacher thinks, the way the teacher acts and the responses teachers give affects a child to a large extent. The teachers, especially in the primary classes, spend more time with children as most of the times they deal with an individual child, as children are developing their foundational skills. (Comparatively, in higher classes the more focus will be on the subject teaching rather than individual child learning observation). The teachers should be very caring and show concern towards the children. As a learner, child irrespective of the IQ and the learning skills come up with doubts related to their subjects. Sometimes children ask a doubt, which could be silly to us. In order for the children to get clarification on their doubts, there should be a good rapport between the children and the teachers. The children should not be afraid to talk to the teachers and whenever the stu

Understanding three theoretical aspects of student Counselling (Part 1.4):

-  The relationship of the student with the teachers and the peer group is vital as it affects the mental health of the student. If the student is anxious, worried, feels inferior, withdrawn, harassed and prejudiced against, then it adversely affects his scholastic progress. Hence the educational counsellor needs to take care of these issues while addressing the educational concerns of the student   (IGNOU, N.D) . In education, the counsellors are commonly known as school counsellors. A school counsellor is a counsellor and an educator who works in elementary, middle, and high schools to provide academic, career, college access, and personal/social competencies to K-12 students (PreK to PUC/11th/12th)   (IGNOU, N.D) . School counsellors help students evaluate their abilities, interests, talents, and personalities to develop realistic academic and career goals. These counsellors emphasise preventive and developmental counselling to enhance students’ personal, social, and academic growth

Need to develop counselling programme at the grassroots level, applicable to the underdeveloped areas of the country (Part 1.3):

Education is considered to be a boon, it should help channelize the youthful energies towards creativity and self-actualisation. It should help children understand their abilities and personality dispositions so that they can perform at their best in the school   (IGNOU, N.D) . Counselling is one of the practices which supports children in these aspects. Counselling does not mean just an appointment of the counsellor in a school, counselling is a system and a complete process. Image source: To benefit from the counselling practices, a school should have a well planned and managed counselling system. What is Counselling? Counselling is the means by which one person helps another through purposeful conversation, it is not an advise giving and advice seeking, but to help a person to take decision himself.   (b-u.ac.in, N.D) . Counselling is very helpful and necessary for children’s mental health support. Mental health is defined as a state of well-being in which every individual
