- Teachers play a very important role in a child's life. Teachers are the real role models. Whatever the teacher thinks, the way the teacher acts and the responses teachers give affects a child to a large extent. The teachers, especially in the primary classes, spend more time with children as most of the times they deal with an individual child, as children are developing their foundational skills. (Comparatively, in higher classes the more focus will be on the subject teaching rather than individual child learning observation).
The teachers should be very caring and show concern towards the children. As a learner, child irrespective of the IQ and the learning skills come up with doubts related to their subjects. Sometimes children ask a doubt, which could be silly to us. In order for the children to get clarification on their doubts, there should be a good rapport between the children and the teachers. The children should not be afraid to talk to the teachers and whenever the student comes to the teacher to clarify the doubt the teacher should welcome the child so that children can clarify the doubts whenever it arises. This way the subject related concepts of children are clearer and strong.
As human being, we are balancing our personal life and professional life. We have a lot of personal life/family-related frustrations and stress. It is very difficult to keep that stress not to interfere in our school affairs. If you have difficult times at family that stress and the pressure tend to impact our professional life. Sometimes or even most of the times it happens that we tend to vent out our frustration and stress on our students. Few studies have focused on this aspect where the teachers' personal life pressures and stresses are vented out on children through corporal punishment, or by behaving rudely or even for that matter slapping the child without a strong reason.
As per a few studies, the love of a subject in a child is also connected to the teachers' behaviour and interaction with the child. When children like the subject it also means that somewhere the child also likes the teacher. It could also be, the way the teacher has taught the subject, the way the teacher has showcased the importance of the subject/concept.
As teaching professionals, we have to make sure that we behave politely with our students and completely we should avoid verbal yelling and nonverbal frustration like staring etc. When we have a good relationship with the students the students also will co-operate with us during our classes and this way both of us can benefit from the learning.
