*NEP of India Looks Smart*

- By M. Burhanuddin Qasmi  The New Education Policy (NEP) of India, 54 pages, are out for public now. To me it looks smart and appealing. It speaks about present needs and gives a holistic approach towards education. Keeping the emerging technology aspect in mind, the NEP talks about creativity and skill development in the students from the early stages. The thrusts are on practical learning and the evaluation pattern is kept both subjective and objective from the school level. This will help students to score marks as per their original ability, rather than being habitual of theoretical parrot-learning or copy-pasting to score marks in board exams only as in the present system. I have been talking for past few years that the exam pattern in our school education system has been not adequate to produce creative minds, rather it promotes parroting like a xerox machine, thus it needed to be changed. The NEP has partly addressed that concern.  5+3+3+4 structure of education is a new idea.

It's not the school wall, it's the whole environment that makes or breaks our children: A thought towards holistic education-

- How can the head of an educational institution change the environment? ـــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــ Imagine for a second that there is a person who is a police officer and who is basically also a bribe-taker, a haram eater ( Haram is an Arabic term meaning forbidden ), a blackmailer, a politician's spoon ... Etc.   Now his son is going to school. A few years later, the child grew up to grade 6/7. Now the lazy principal of this school has been transferred to another branch of the school or he has left the scene in any case. The new principal came with professional training as well as passion and enthusiasm.  As soon as the new principal came, he instilled such a spirit in all the teachers that they all started performing better with self-motivation. At the same time, the wise man actively involved the children's parents and the community in this whole training process; he knows that the child's overall personality is affected by everyth

‘My school, My pride’- It’s time to pay back:

If I am using the pen to write this piece of the campaign, there are teachers behind me . If I am thinking to draft this campaign, there are teachers behind me. If I am able to express my thoughts to you, there are teachers behind me. If I am able to explore the design of this campaign, there are classrooms which taught me to explore. As in cricket, in life too everybody has their turn to showcase their strengths and abilities. Now it’s your turn. If you have studied in school, do you have passion and courage to support the school in this difficult times? Are you ready? Even a phone call to your teacher might make a difference. Are you ready? Pandemic has effected every aspect of life. Many schools are on the boundary of closure. Schools are into financial trouble- Even not able to pay the salaries to teachers, and not able to pay rents of the buildings. Not able to withstand- Few schools are on thoughts of closing down their academics and shift their professi

Counselling with a holistic approach at schools- Balancing child’s academic and life skills (Part 1.2)

- C hildren are an important part of the citizenry, and education plays an important role to develop productive citizens. Education aims at the overall development of children. Any education system should cater to the development of body, heart, mind and soul. Through this, we can truly achieve holistic growth. For child’s education and development, teachers play an important role at school, and parents play an important role at home. In addition to the teacher and parent support, there is an upcoming need and trend of counselling at school. It is mandatory to have a counsellor in school as per CBSE board (As per referred in 2015). With regards to the student counselling, the counsellors work closely with the teacher as well as parents. A six-week study in Mysore city of Karnataka India was undertaken to see how the professional counselling practices are helping students in issues like academic, behavioural, personal life, career planning and so on. Counselling provides crucial sca

Children’s mental health and wellbeing- Understanding counselling practices at schools (Part 1.1)

-  There is a strong need to balance academic excellence and quality of life at school. Currently, due to various factors, the schools and parents are focused more on academic than the quality of life. Various studies are being undertaken to understand ‘holistic development’ of children at school as well as home. A field research was undertaken titled ' Children’s mental health: Towards an understanding of school counselling practices’ , and soon after that, another study was done on ‘Wellbeing policies’ . This field intervention was done in five schools of Mysore, Karnataka, India. And the mentor for the field research (first study) on children’s mental health was Mrs Rajashree, a faculty member and Education program head at Azim Premji University, Bangalore. Image source: The child’s wellbeing and mental health are very crucial for the child’s success at school as well as life. In today’s scenario around the world, particularly in urban centres, children are not getting adequ

How to develop interest towards reading in children:

Children's interest in reading:  Some thoughts: Written by Najam-ul-Huda II My observation is that there is very little interest in reading in Muslim families.  Even well-educated people seem to be deprived of this blessing.  People have no shortage of time in lockdown.  With a little attention, we can instil in children a tendency to read.  In the age of TV and mobile phones, this is not an easy task, but it is a work in progress.  His passion for reading will also brighten his personality and, God willing, will be a guarantee of his success.  Here are some suggestions: Image source ا۔  Get in the habit of reading it yourself.  (This is the hardest condition :)  2.  Make children aware of the importance of books and reading through your behaviour and conversations. 3.  Give children books of stories and poems as gifts.  Be sure to write something in your writing for these myths and don't forget to put a date.  4.  Spend some time reading with the children each day.  Read for y

GIRLS EDUCATION DURING LOCKDOWN- SOCIO-ECONOMIC IMPACTS:

- The world is fighting hard to defeat the COVID19 virus which has taken hundreds of thousands of lives worldwide. Considering the disease as a serious threat to human beings, all sorts of usual economic activities have been shut down and learning environment for school children also been suspended indefinitely.  As for the report by UNESCO, 320 Million children enrolled in the school (pre-primary to tertiary) have been suspended from the formal educational learning environment. And out of it, about 158 Million students are females. The most remarkable concern is about female education in the near future, as they seem to have enormous challenges in terms of learning at home due to the economic crisis during this pandemic. In fact, the most affected victims would be those underprivileged communities.  Click for Image source:  Girl’s education is at high risk: Looking at the facts about girl’s educational status in most of the underprivileged communities, the high risks of being unable t
