How do you celebrate Teacher's Day in Japan?

 - In Japan, there is no Teacher's Day! One day, I asked my Japanese colleague,  teacher Yamamota:  How do you celebrate Teacher's Day in Japan?  Surprised by my question , he replied, We don't have Teacher's Day! When I heard his reply, I was not sure whether I should believe him or not.  A thought passed through my mind : " Why a country, which is so advanced in economy, sciences & technology, is so disrespectful towards teachers and their work? " Once, after work, Yamamota invited me to his house .We took the metro since it was far away. It was the evening peak hour, and the wagons in the metro train were overcrowded . I managed to find space to stand, holding tightly to the overhead rail. Suddenly, an elderly man who was seated beside me offered me his seat. Not understanding this respectful behaviour of an elderly man, I declined, but he was persistent, and I was forced to sit.  Once we were out of the metro, I inquired Yamamota to explain exactly ...

Teacher encourages 6th class dropout, later on that student establishes a successful food company:

  - A boy fails in 6th standard and drops out of school. After being concerned of a student dropping out of school, a teacher encourages that child to join back the school. Later on this boy in his career develops a food business and delivers his success story at Harvard University. Today the company which he developed is know as 'iD fresh food'. As of 2021 the company is valued at ₹2,000 Crore. After failing in Class 6 he joined his father on the farm. He said in one of the interview, "We barely earned ₹10 in daily wages. Eating three meals a day was a distant dream. I'd tell myself, 'Right now, food is more important than education',". Many successful people are those who come out of hardship and struggle in their venture and later on this struggle gives them motivation to achieve in life. These people are ready to take risks in life, as they have already lived 'out of their comfort zone'. This story also highlights the value of a teacher who was...

National Education Day- 11th November, Remembering Maulana Abul Kalam Azad:

 - National Education Day is celebrated across the country, every year on November 11 , to commemorate the birth anniversary of India’s First Education Minister Maulana Abul Kalam Azad. Maulana Abul Kalam Azad served the country from 1947 to 1958 as the first minister of Education in Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru's cabinet. A reformer and the freedom fighter, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad was not merely a scholar but committed to building of the nation through education. Maulana Abul Kalam Azad was the man behind the IITs and many key institutes in the country. Here are 8 inspiring quotes from Maulana Abul Kalam Azad 1.” We must not for a moment forget, it is a birthright of every individual to receive at least the basic education without which he cannot fully discharge his duties as a citizen. 2. “Educationists should build the capacities of the spirit of inquiry, creativity, entrepreneurial and moral leadership among students and become their role model.” 3. “Climbing to the top demands stre...

Teacher should be humble, should create a good example for the students:

- Teachers play a very important role in a child's life. Teachers are the real role models. Whatever the teacher thinks, the way the teacher acts and the responses teachers give affects a child to a large extent. The teachers, especially in the primary classes, spend more time with children as most of the times they deal with an individual child, as children are developing their foundational skills. (Comparatively, in higher classes the more focus will be on the subject teaching rather than individual child learning observation). The teachers should be very caring and show concern towards the children. As a learner, child irrespective of the IQ and the learning skills come up with doubts related to their subjects. Sometimes children ask a doubt, which could be silly to us. In order for the children to get clarification on their doubts, there should be a good rapport between the children and the teachers. The children should not be afraid to talk to the teachers and whenever the stu...

#EducationForAll- Simplifying online education:

- (Don’t forget to watch an amazing video at the end of the publication) When we hear the word ‘Online Education’, what does come to our mind? Smartphone, laptop, Zoom, Meet, Webex, Teams etc. etc. and whatnot. Are these only sources of online reach for the children’s education? The life is easy, it’s how we perceive it makes it harder. Image source: Pinterest Today we are struck with a global pandemic, because of which our priorities have reorganised. The way we were educating until now is taking different turns. The classrooms are being made virtual, replacing blackboard and chalk. And there are few schools who have decided to completely shut down the teaching and learning until the things are back to normal. As we said in our previous articles, now it’s going to be ‘New Normal’. Currently, our focus is on reaching parents and children through smartphone or laptop. But believe me, we cannot reach 100% of the population with these hi-tech facilities. What about the parents who d...

Finding meaning in things we do as a teacher:

Snippets : - According to  psychologists , we all have an internalized narrative that explains how we became the person we are today and where we are headed tomorrow. As we revisit our story, it can help us to understand how and why we became an educator. It may also help us to answer the question “Who do I want to become?” - Children learn social-emotional skills by being exposed to adult behavior. “If a teacher doesn’t have a level of social-emotional competence … then he or she is sending mixed messages,” writes Patricia Jennings, in her book  Mindfulness for Teachers . - As you commit to a plan, keep holding on to the parts of your work that give you meaning. And remember the wise words of a teacher: “Care for yourself as hard as you care for those kids.” Click to read full article from source :

Unique problem with regard to appetite and satiety (a state of complete and thorough satisfaction related to hunger) faced by teachers:

For all those who are in teaching profession👇🏻👇🏻 Dear Teachers/Trainers...Please read. Note: ' Satiety ' is a state of being completely full, but the related adjective satiated is much more commonly used to describe someone who has eaten enough. Teachers have a very unique problem with regard to appetite and satiety. On an average, they are speaking loudly for 4-5 hours in addition to the regular daily conversations. Unfortunately, the calories that they burn with speaking do not help in weight management and their fitness levels. The practical problems: 1. They build up a big appetite because of the constant talking. 2. They develop wind or gas in their stomachs. The wind makes it difficult for them to eat even though they are hungry. 3. Eating on time may not be always possible because they have back to back classes apart from the routine administrative work. 4. Most teachers forget to drink water as they go to different...
