Please stop giving importance to 10th standard board exam: It is not special, it's like any other previous classes of schooling:
Most of us have experienced our life's 'sweet 16'. In this age usually we face our 10th standard board exam.
After the board results are announced the new heroes and heroines appear on TV and newspaper. Is the knowledge so glamorous.
Let's analyse some practical issues.
Have you ever thought why do we give so much importance to performance of 10th standard alone? Is not the learning of the previous years important?
One major cause among the many causes which is creating more importance for 10th standard is, the 'Marks card' of board exam. The reason is, this marks card is considered for higher education, job and few legal/government office procedures. Because of this we focus on 1 year result/marks, ignoring a decade of education happened till 10th.
The other reason is the answer sheet is not evalvated by the teachers who taught them. I e. A third person does board exam paper correction.
Article is continued after the below picture.
5 facts about 10th standard might clear our misconceptions:
1. The 10th standard is just a continuation of 9th standard as we continued from 1st to 2nd or 6th to 7th or 8th to 9th.
2. The education board/experts draw the curriculum plan from 1st standard to 10th standard according to the learning level and age appropriateness of the children. So each grade/class is important.
3. The topics which are taught in 10th standard are all connected to previous grades, it is important for students to know previous class concepts (primary/ higher primary). The students who have not put good efforts in earlier classes will feel the pain to cope up with concepts in 10th. Specially in maths and science.
4. In an effort to get more marks the students often who are not used to routine study habits, feel the pain to get into strict study schedules in 10th. These students become aggressive or depressed.
Advice: Why can't we make students to focus on studies from earlier classes like primary itself, as we try to organize their routine in 10th standard.
I don't think we plan so deeply for other classes as we do for 10th standard.
5. From grade 1 start preparing and strengthening your child's basics of grammar, writing skills, Comprehension- understanding skills, maths, and science.
To conclude, make your child love to learn, and love the learned.
