The students are sent to school to make them a fully developed individual, emotionally, socially, physically and intellectual wise. A good leader has an healthy body, mind, heart and soul. There are many many critical leadership skills that students need to develop. There are some important ones that include self awareness/mindfulness, listening, communication, collaboration, and positivity. For a student to be a successful leader, they must try to learn these attributes.
The responsibilty of developing leadership qualities falls squarely on parents, society and also school. Today’s highly competitive world demands students to be able to communicate well, be confident, think critically and creatively, solve problems, take thoughtful decisions, be able to work with others, have a goal in life, take responsibility and behave ethically and morally.
Other than regular subjects schools organise various events, this helps students to learn various skills practically as it’s process of facilitating. Being a part of the organising committee will help the student to learn leadership qualities like problem-solving and decision making.
Sometimes you might have to work backstage to organise few activities for school, this will teach you that leadership does not always mean being visible to everyone, it also means contributing off-stage also. Thus organising events is a great way to hone one’s managerial skills like punctuality and critical thinking, while dealing with chaos and crisis.
The school management, principals and the coordinators should have a plan to bring these qualities among children by opening many many opportunities for students at school.
The schools and colleges can also enrol itself into NCC, NSS, groups which will give very formal source of developing leadership qualities.
