When we see a school board topper we feel that he has succeeded in life and he can win in every situation in life. Now here is a question for schools and the boards of education, have they prepared children to the challenges and the needs of day-to-day life and career.
The Indian express did a four month investigation to find out how the toppers of Indian school boards doing in their career, their perception of education, and the challenges which they had to face in their further career due to gap in education system.
One expressed that they should have informed about career opportunities which are available for them.
Another said that they should have taught report, essay writing, and expression techniques.
Toppers feel that schools stuck to text books and did not prepare for challenges to face outside.
The report says, 'While board toppers marks and ranks may have given them a head start, looking back, they now see crucial gaps in their school curriculum and in the way they were taught'.
One head from one of the school boards says that the new NEP is a “unique opportunity” to usher in changes and reforms in school education. He also added the importance of progress education, he said “If our past toppers feel their education was lacking in exposure to other professions or in teaching social-emotional skills, we will look at all their suggestions and use the opportunity presented by the NEP to make changes,”.
